Artist Statement
저는 제 취약함에 대한 기억과 감정을 작업의 출발점으로 삼고 있습니다. 제 작업은 직조라는 과정을 통해 치유와 극복의 여정을 담아냅니다.
저는 실을 꼬고, 묶고, 이어 직조 조각을 만듭니다. 반복적이고 시간이 필요한 이 작업은 복잡하고 얽혀있는 모든 기억과 생각들로부터 자신을 돌아보고 감정을 정리할 수 있는 시간과 기회를 부여합니다. 부드럽고 포근한 소재로 이어지는 저의 작업은 이 긴 시간들 속에서 자라난 인내와 회복력 그리고 치유의 상징으로 치환됩니다. 복잡하고 다양한 감정들과 취약함에 대한 기억들은 직조 과정을 통하여 치유받고, 부드럽고 포근한 소재로 다시 한 번 태어납니다.
저에게 직조의 과정은 또한 강인함에 대한 은유이기도 합니다. 한 가닥의 실은 약하고 쉽게 끊어지지만, 서로 함께 엮을 수록 점점 더 강해집니다. 가느다란 실은 서로 엮이고 묶여 거대한 하나의 조각으로 새로 태어납니다. 이 변화를 통해 저는 취약성을 되돌아보고, 나약함을 받아들여 스스로 수용하고 회복하여 치유되는 과정을 시각화 합니다.
저는 취약함을 불러일으키는 감정과 기억들 속에서 공감의 가능성을 찾고 있습니다. 무너지거나 불안정한 감정, 복잡하고 다양한 곳으로부터 오는 취약성과 나약함을 발견하고 그것을 극복하고 치유해나가는 여정을 공유하고 탐구하고자 합니다.
I’m working on my memories and feelings toward my vulnerability. My body of work focus es on overcoming and healing through the process of weaving.
I weave. This is my way of representing my complicated feelings toward emotional suffer ings. Weaving is such a repetitive and time-consuming craft and that time always allows me to reflect on myself and gives me the space to process emotions.
I use soft, fluffy materials. It looks very soft and warm, so people never recognize that it comes from such sufferings. While personal difficulties and sufferings are often viewed as negative feelings, I reimagine these emotions as a symbol of patience, resilience and heal-ing.
The process of weaving is also a metaphor of strength. A single thread is fragile and easily broken, but when woven together, it’s getting stronger. Through this transformation, I’ve learned to embrace vulnerabilities and use them as a source of strength and self-accept ance.
I recognize empathy in the emotions tied to vulnerability - feeling weak, incomplete, and sinking into depression when one feels broken. This ongoing journey of overcoming and self-discovery is what truly inspires my work, and I’m eager to continue exploring it.
